Gramado is in the mountains of Rio Grande do Sul, in southern Brazil. In the 2025 official survey, 48% of visitors arrived by plane and 35% by car.
By plane
The usual gateway is Salgado Filho International Airport in Porto Alegre (POA). Travellers from outside South America usually connect through a major Brazilian hub such as São Paulo; some international routes, including from neighbouring countries, fly directly into Porto Alegre — check current routes with the airlines. Caxias do Sul airport is an alternative with fewer flights.
From the airport, the rest of the trip is by road:
- Rental car: flexible for exploring the region.
- Transfer: convenient if you will stay downtown and do not want to drive mountain roads.
- Bus: intercity buses serve Gramado; check schedules and departure points directly with the bus companies.
By car
Driving lets you combine Gramado with other towns in the Serra Gaúcha. Check road conditions and the forecast — fog is common in the mountains — and make sure your accommodation has parking. If you drive from another country, check the documents required to cross the border with your vehicle.
Getting around once there
Downtown is walkable. For attractions further out, use taxis or ride-hailing apps. See where to stay to choose a convenient base.
